Rock Climbing Day Trips

Gauteng - KZN
KZN

Monteseel is a rocky crag just beyond Botha’s Hill, just outside the village of Hillcrest, and on the edge of the Valley of 1000 Hills; with views to match.

Considered one of the oldest places to climb in the province, over 300 different routes of varying difficulty provide avid climbers with a perfect climbing ground, about 15 minutes’ walk from the parking area.

Many of these routes fall into the easy grade, making it optimal for beginners and children (Cain on the Think Wall, and Adam’s Apoplexy on the Hallucination Wall, for starters), but there are also moderate climbs, grade 16 to 19, and for hard climbers (like Angel Dust Direct).

The north-facing crags face mean that the best time of day during summer are the early mornings, when there is shade. By the afternoon things can get rather uncomfortable in the heat. Winter is ideal weather for this climbing venue.

Rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport, one that often tests a climber’s strength, endurance, agility and balance along with mental control.

We offer tailor made packages with all equipment provided – the price is for a ½ day activity and how many climbs will depend on your fitness level and ability to climb.

Your typical day will start with a meet/ greet and registration. You will be issued with your gear and we will walk towards the band of rocks visible from the car park.

Depending on your fitness level we will start the warm up with either vision of Urban Gloom or Informal Settlement. The second route will be Cosmic Politician, followed by Street Fighter and Kamakazi
